Cheap Compost
Creating Cheap Compost!

Creating your own compost can save you money if you commit to the system long term, and have an efficient system. Setting up the compost system will probably require a substantial amount of time and money, but you will be able to see the rewards over time, while creating your own cheap compost!
Benefits of Cheap Compost
Not only are there monetary benefits from making your own compost, but also there are other benefits as well. Another benefit of composting is its convenience. Convenience!?! You’re probably thinking that nothing could be as convenient as going to the store, or even purchasing online, a bag of compost! And, to a certain extent, you are correct. But what if you are in the middle of overturning your garden and realize that you need some additional compost for the correct composition of soil? Will it be convenient to go back inside, get your keys, and go to the store? Maybe you’re thinking that you’ll just purchase some next time you’re online—and that’s a valid argument. However, if you simply need to walk a few feet to shovel up some of your own compost and add it to your garden, then having your own system for creating cheap compost REALLY could be the most convenient option.
Responsibility of Cheap Compost
Besides the convenience, the environmental responsibility of composting should not be overlooked. If you are not composting, right now, you are sending hundreds of pounds of garbage to the dump every year. As the pile at the dump grows larger and larger, you wonder how the company will get rid of all that waste. That is an excellent question! It is no longer new news that we have piles of garbage floating around in the Pacific Ocean, poisoning our waters and marine life. Being environmentally irresponsible has only succeeded in polluting our world for future generations! It is your responsibility NOT to poison your children by creating cheap compost every day! Make the change, take the time to improve your life and the lives of others by getting started today.
Creation of Cheap Compost
Some of the tools that you will need for a cheap composting system are
- a compost bin or cage,
- a method of aeration, and
- a method for sorting & storage.
Whatever your preference is, you can find a compost method that is suited for you. Some prefer the cage for easier aeration, but others detest the odor and prefer a bin—the choice is up to you. Yard clippings, leaves, and twigs are an important addition to your compost pile.
Methods of aeration
In order for materials to compost quickly, they need warmth, moisture, and aeration (allow it to get air). If you use a cage in your backyard, you allow small ants, bugs, and worms to do most of the aeration for you, usually without ever having to turn the compost yourself. However, if you instead use a bin, you will need to mix or turn the compost often.
Methods of sorting & storage
When sorting and storing food scraps for composting, make a plan that is suitable for your home. For sorting, always make sure that it is clear to all family members what can and cannot be added to compost. For storage, some prefer a small, closed-lid bin for storing scraps and then dumping them on a pile. Others, however, prefer an open bucket that is dumped and rinsed after every meal. If you are considering an open container outside your backdoor, make sure that you will not attract unwanted rodents. With one of these methods, you’ll be on your way to creating your own cheap compost!
